Very cool surprise to find yet another example of Spanglish advertising. This time it was on English only tv, The Travel Channel, of all places.
As I was waiting for another installment of No Reservations with Anthony Bourdain (have yet to blog about this) a fairly new spot for Tecate Light turns on, featuring a few cultural hispanic references weaving into the “gringo” culture.
Among our contributions: Rey Misterio, an authentic luchador making his mark in the US wrestling world; a street sign that says “Beware of Perro Malo” warning you of an aggressive Chihuahua dog; and the Versanchez logo based on Versace, which surfaced circa 1994, but somehow doesn’t get old. I don’t know if mainstream americanos will get it, but it’s a nice try.
